Southern Tier ADAPT Chapter
Description
American Disabled for Attendant Programs Today (ADAPT) works to reverse the bias toward people with disabilities as in need of institutional facilities. ADAPT is concerned with the availability of affordable, accessible housing, public transportation issues, and employment opportunities for people with disabilities. People with all kinds of disabilities and others interested in disability rights participate. ADAPT has been focused on passage of the Disability Integration Act, introduced by Senator Schumer and Congressman Gibson. The legislation builds on the 25 years of work that ADAPT has done to end the institutional bias and provide seniors and people with disabilities home and community-based services (HCBS) as an alternative to institutionalization.
