HEAP (Home Energy and Cooling Assistance Program) - Opportunities for Otsego
Assists income-eligible households in meeting their winter heating costs by coordinating payment for electricity, propane, natural gas, wood, oil, kerosene, coal or other heating fuels. Households with inoperable heating equipment may also quality for furnace repair and/or replacement benefit. HEAP season runs November through May. Home air conditioners for heat-related health problems for the medically-vulnerable including senior citizens and children. Eligible households first come, first served.

Serves: NY - Otsego County;
Eligibility: Income-eligible households. HEAP season runs October through May.
Intake Process: Persons 60+ yrs contact Office for the Aging. Households receiving SNAP or Public Assistance benefits should contact their DSS caseworker. All other households may apply online through www.mybenefits.ny.gov or by mail, phone, or in person at OFO.
Documents Required: Proof of residency; proof of Income; identification and Social Security number for each household member; heating/utility bill. Emergency benefits also require resource documentation (e.g. cash, checking/saving account, stocks/bonds, IRA, etc).
